Clark Baim workshop: Attachment Based Practice with Adults |
|
|
14 May 2012
| Berry Street is proud to introduce Attachment Based Practice with Adults presented by international speaker, Clark Baim.
Clark worked closely with Tony Morrison and they co-developed the five stage therapeutic interviewing model based on the DMM. He is the co-author, with Tony Morrison, of Attachment-based Practice with Adults: Understanding strategies and promoting positive change. Published 2011 by Pavilion, UK.
The workshop, being held on 14 May 2012 in Melbourne, will introduce participants to key concepts in the field of attachment theory and apply this theory to working with adults. The workshop will use presentation and participatory work, with an emphasis on interactive learning (e.g. in pairs and small groups), to explore how attachment theory can inform a deeper understanding of the people we work with and the methods that may help them to better understand themselves and change their behaviour.

Working with boys to prevent family violence |
|
|
18 May 2012
| International Speaker, Clark Baim, will present the Keynote Address at this practice forum that will focus on helping boys to break the cycle of family violence.
Clark is the co-author of an international literature review, commissioned by Berry Street, of programs aimed at helping boys to break the cycle of family violence.
Joining Clark will be:
| Timothy O'Leary, educator and therapist, presenting on getting to the heart of young men's aggression and violence; and
| Paul Zappa, Director of NIRODAH Pty Ltd, who will provide insight into engaging young men in the prevention of men's violence against women
Clark will outline what the evidence shows about best practice principles and program effectiveness, with an emphasis on group work approaches.
The literature tells us that these approaches can be effective at three different levels: primary/universal services; secondary services targeting selected ‘at risk’ groups; and tertiary services working with identified individuals. Timothy and Paul will provide examples of successful approaches and offer practitioners the opportunity to hear directly from those who are working with boys in a variety of settings.
The forum will encourage practitioners to reflect on their own work and to better address the needs of boys.

18 July 2012
| The one day Calmer Classrooms workshop will provide principals, teachers and school support staff with frameworks and practical strategies that engage children and young people in the education experience. Children and young people who have experienced trauma and disrupted attachment often do not positively engage in the social and educational experience. The signs and symptoms of their disrupted attachment and trauma are frequently misunderstood due to their challenging behaviours.
This workshop will assist participants to:
| - Understand the impact of trauma and disrupted attachment on a child and young person's development
- Identify the signs and symptoms of trauma
- Incorporate proven strategies into their teaching
- Increase their resilience in this challenging area
